Why do you judge others, and how you can stop judging them?
I used to judge others. I realized this was wrong. Worked on it. And overcame this. I have written on why we judge others and how you can stop judging. I hope it helps…
Let us first understand the meaning of Judgment. Judgment is basically a collection of thoughts, positive or negative about another person based on our perception of the world.
Judgment can be divided into two types, positive and negative judgment.
Positive Judgment: This is when you judge someone whose belief system aligns with yours. If not used to boost your ego, this is hardly harmful and is a means of finding our tribe in the world. For example, if you believe in God, you might positively judge someone that shares the same belief.
Negative Judgement: This is when we judge someone whose belief system is contradictory to ours. Generally, this is used to boost our ego & self-esteem. Pretty clear that this is harmful and wrong. For example, if you believe in God, you might negatively judge someone that does not share the same belief.
This brings me to the next point, that someone with minimal ego issues, will hardly ever judge someone, be it positive or negative judgment. Also, we judge other people when we are not confident with our own belief systems and are looking for support, or we too strongly believe in our belief system, and cannot tolerate other views to be accepted.
Now, that you understand why you judge someone, let us understand how we can stop judging others. There can be two ways of overcoming this:
Become more self-aware of when you judge someone, and consciously stop yourself thereby questioning yourself on why are you judging.
Be confident with what you believe in. To be confident, have logical arguments to support your belief.
Think about it. I hope it helps...
